Plessi in Venice

You can admire the great LIQUID LIGHT installation by Fabrizio Plessi at the Venetian Arsenal. It is composed by the Llaüt, traditional boats of the Balearic Islands.

The event, organized by Alberto Peruzzo Foundation, under the auspices of the Regional Council of Veneto and VENICE TO EXPO 2015, offers a single large installation at the Arsenal, whose title is PLESSI. LIQUID LIGHT that, for the first time in forty years, does not bear any trace of plasma screens or monitors, but only a subtle and mysterious blue light (reminiscent of the light of a television) coming out from the keels of fourteen capsized boats, the llaüt, traditional Balearic boats for trawling and the background sound of the waves.
Following the intervention of the European Community, which encouraged their disposal, many llaüt were abandoned by fishermen. Fabrizio Plessi (Reggio Emilia, 1940), after a phase of detailed research and recovery in Mallorca, decided to give them new life by making them content and container of this installation that pays homage to the Mediterranean.
“If the light, pure electricity- the administrator Marco Tonelli tells – is the primordial matter driving technology, according to Plessi, design is memory, personal experience and imagination that give strength to another type of energy, the inner energy of the artist himself, able to catch the thrills of a modernity that was called liquid modernity by a great sociologist of our time like Zygmunt Bauman”.
