Milan, 1929: a small shop in the suburbs displays some Murano glass pieces, the famous island in proximity of Venice, a historical reference point for blown glass production.
As early as the 8th century, local artisans (actually artists would be a more apt name for them) were creating these unique artefacts, which would attain worldwide fame later on. These objects were introduced in Milan during the year of the Great Depression, which marked also the advent of Popeye, penicillin, the first Serie A football championship, an early and rudimental colour TV set and the Lateran Pacts. Those were years of great ferment in Italy, as the country had not experienced yet the effects of the global economic crunch… and actually saw the launch of plenty of small and large enterprises.
We thought it appropriate to create a new brand by combining a specific year and a place, also because design includes a variety of factors and concepts that are then translated into new ideas. The brand’s name originates also from the Italian group behind it: Rossini Illuminazione indeed was founded in Milan in 1929.
